TORRANCE, CA — (Marketwire) — 04/04/12 — The Orange County Business Journal (OCBJ) announced that Verengo Solar CEO Randy Bishop and President Ken Button have been selected for the prestigious 2012 Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award.
Headquartered in Torrance, Verengo Solar has grown from its initial solar installation in 2008 to its current position as the largest in California, and the second largest nationwide, according to Button. Last year, the company hired 400 people, and plans to add 450 more to the 2012 payroll in order to keep pace with its exponential growth.
“This has been a terrific year for Verengo, and we are honored to have our efforts recognized by the OCBJ,” said Bishop. “However, the real winners of this award are our employees, who continue to deliver on our most important value of trust every day.”
Added Button, “We are proud to be part of a community that values entrepreneurship and innovation.”
Verengo solar revenues jumped by 130% from 2010 to 2011. Bishop and Button feel that their customer-first company culture, along with innovative zero-down financing which has proven appealing to middle income homeowners, have been the keys to that growth.
In receiving the award, Bishop and Button noted that their goal is to change the way America thinks about : “When people hear –solar,– they think, –expensive hassle, long payback.– Our goal is to change that perception with every interaction,” said Button, “because Verengo makes it easy for our customers to take control of their energy costs and save money, solar is no longer just a luxury item for the wealthy.”
Presented each year, the OCBJ Excellence in Entrepreneurship award recognizes individuals who embody the American entrepreneurial spirit and whose organizations have contributed to the strength of the region–s economy. Bishop and Button are among six outstanding winners selected by an independent panel of judges, announced at a luncheon and awards event last week.
