HAUPPAUGE, NY — (Marketwire) — 04/19/12 — Seven years after launching New York City–s first mobile contact / stray voltage testing program, Premier Utility Services, LLC (“Premier”) is pleased to announce that it has expanded its operations to include both routine and preventative maintenance testing to six other cities in the Mid-Atlantic States.
Contact voltage is the presence of electrical potential on objects that should not normally be energized, such as the mast of a light pole, the lid of a junction box, a manhole cover or a traffic signal controller cabinet. These energized objects could, under the right circumstances, pose a safety risk to the public and small animals such as dogs.
“We believe Premier is uniquely positioned in the contact voltage industry as we are one of the few, if not only, service firm capable of providing both mobile and manual testing services,” said Mark Voigtsberger, Premier–s Manager of Electrical Services. “Not every area can be tested using mobile technology, and not every area is suited for manual testing. Most testing programs require both types of inspections to ensure 100% coverage of the client–s infrastructure.”
Marc Makely, President of Premier added, “Mobile contact voltage sensing technology has continued to evolve and improve. We are now utilizing a fourth generation device. Each system has increased the ability to detect safety issues on electric utility infrastructure and a newly invented sensor technology will make the fifth generation a significant advancement relative to the devices used today.”
Demand for mobile contact voltage testing continues to grow as additional states adopt more stringent regulations. However, advanced technology enables utilities to significantly reduce their testing costs.
