Finding the best combi boiler prices

A Which? report suggests that the independent plumbers and boiler companies are the ones you should be using. According to the survey, customers were happiest with these companies and found better value for money than with the nationals.

In the report, it showed the British Gas charged 75% more than the independent companies.

A Which? spokesman said: “Many customers will trust their energy supplier to give them a good price for installing their boiler. However, this research shows they may end up paying through the nose.”

What you need to remember, is that you–re replacing your boiler:

By not comparing you put yourself at risk of not making a return on your investment.

One homeowner, Donna Ferguson, recently had a new combi boiler fitted and recalls the process she followed in securing the best combi boiler prices.

Her first quote, from British Gas, included three metres worth of piping which she was told was necessary, as well as waste collection and disposal charges.

Donna was also quoted GBP 350 for water treatment and powerflush and a further GBP 1,500 to connect the new boiler to the system.

In total, the quote reached GBP 3,770.

Another company expected her to foot the bill of GBP 100 +VAT just for a quote.

But instead of signing the dotted line, Donna took the advice of Which? and to compare quotes from local companies.

She said: “He (The independent plumber) said it wasn–t a problem to reconnect the existing pipes to the new boiler and he could still guarantee the labour and parts for six years. He then offered to carry out the entire job for just GBP 2,550. This included the six-year guarantee underwritten by Worcester Bosch and two years– free servicing, a chemical flush, a wireless programmable room thermostat and all the –make good– building work.

“I nearly bit his hand off. I saved GBP 1,200 on the British Gas quote, got six years of peace of mind about all parts and labour relating to the boiler.”

The savings she was able to make on combi boiler prices, was only because she compared quotes. By not signing the dotted line she guaranteed finding a better deal elsewhere.

By comparing you–ll find yourself in a much better position than if you took the first offer that comes your way.
