TORONTO, ONTARIO — (Marketwire) — 06/27/12 — The Ontario Electrical League (OEL) today applauded the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party for supporting open tendering of public sector construction projects.
In a new policy whitepaper, “Paths to Prosperity: Flexible Labour Markets,” the Party includes open tendering as a central policy position.
“The OEL welcomes the Ontario PCs– stand for a strong and competitive Ontario economy, fairness to taxpayers, and ending rules that block thousands of contractors and their employees from working on public construction projects,” said OEL President Stephen Sell.
Sell remarked, “Open construction tendering will save Ontario–s provincial and municipal taxpayers millions of dollars, and make more money available for hospitals and other essential infrastructure. It will also restore fairness to public tendering and increase competition by allowing non-union companies and their employees to bid on public sector work.”
The new whitepaper, available at , specifically calls for provincial policy to “Abolish the practice of closed tendering across Ontario–s municipal and broader public sectors.”
