TULSA, OK — (Marketwire) — 07/25/12 — (PINKSHEETS: TLGN), a pioneer in organic food processing systems and compostable packaging alternatives, reports another successful test pilot of its revolutionary with (NYSE: AFL), the nation–s number one provider of supplemental insurance.
Aflac purchased the Green Machine for a corporate kitchen at the company–s headquarters in Columbus, Georgia. By establishing an effective means for rapid, on-site food composting, Aflac expects to divert as much as 60,000 pounds of food waste per year with the help of the ORCA. The installation reflects Aflac–s ® philosophy, including its goal to reduce 75% of the solid waste it sends to landfills.
When Aflac purchased the ORCA Green food digester about four months ago, it joined more than 45 institutional, commercial and government organizations across the country operating the machine in their kitchens and food processing plants. Using microbial enzyme activity to break down the waste, the ORCA Green Machine can reduce up to 2,400 pounds of food waste daily, turning it into a nutrient-rich liquid similar to –compost tea.– This liquid can be used for irrigation or flushed into the sewer system rather than filling landfills at great expense, both economically and environmentally. Besides the increasing cost of traditional garbage disposal, the organic waste decomposing in landfills is one of the greatest producers of methane gas, and other air pollutants.
“Since we have always prided ourselves on being good corporate citizens, environmental issues have always been important to Aflac,” said Rob Holleman, Aflac–s facilities maintenance construction director. “The ORCA Green Machine is a way to extend and expand our efforts to be a better partner, not only for our shareholders and policyholders, but also for the environment. We are very pleased that the ORCA Green Machine helps us improve our overall footprint.”
Nate Baker, president of Totally Green, commented: “Aflac represents another strong validation of our ORCA Green technology by another major corporation. Like Costco, Lowes, Whole Foods, Royal Caribbean, Morgan Stanley, and a number of federal agencies, including the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps and GSA, Aflac looks to us to help them advance their sustainability initiatives and reduce their carbon footprint. They are a shining example of responsible corporate planetary stewardship that all should follow, and it comes as no surprise Aflac was by Fortune as one of the World–s Most Admired Companies.”
