WARREN, NJ — (Marketwire) — 09/26/12 — Helene Ferm, an accomplished engineer with more than 20 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry, has joined Paulus, Sokolowski & Sartor, LLC (PS&S), as Senior Project Manager in the Energy Practice of the Mechanical Group. She will be based at PS&S headquarters in Warren, NJ.

Ms. Ferm is a Professional Engineer, Certified Energy Manager and LEED Accredited Professional who joins PS&S following more than two decades at Merck. She launched her career at Merck in 1990 as an Engineering Associate, Central Engineering, supervising the design and commissioning of energy-efficient 100,000+ sq ft. HVAC and building automation systems in pharmaceutical research and manufacturing facilities in the US and Puerto Rico. Ms. Ferm also managed the design and construction of multimillion dollar pharmaceutical facilities. In 1997 Helene joined the Rahway Environmental Group as a Project Environmental Engineer. At that time, she led the site–s cross-functional site-remediation team, managing project schedules and budgets, as well as site-wide emissions reporting, helping Merck reduce SARA emissions by 90%.
In 2004 Ms. Ferm was named Merck–s Senior Energy Analyst, providing leadership to its Energy Program at the Rahway Site and later at 15+ North American sites while managing the distribution of a $1 million capital fund for energy projects. She identified and implemented energy conservation measures at US and European sites, employing Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to achieve energy savings in excess of $1 million annually and water cost reduction at Merck–s Rahway site of more than $500,000. She also developed and implemented an energy scorecard and a Key Performance Index (KPI) for energy / sustainability for a program that reduced energy use 2% annually and energy intensity more than 30%; and greenhouse gas emissions by more than 16% from 2004-2009.
Ms. Ferm is a Fulbright Scholar, studying HVAC Engineering at the Technical University Berlin. She graduated Princeton University with a B.S.E. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and received her M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
