VAUGHAN, ONTARIO — (Marketwire) — 10/12/12 — officials announced today that the utility–s annual charity golf tournament, held last month at the in Alliston, Ontario, netted more than $90,000 for the company–s 2012 fundraising campaign in support of the and the .
The total amount of money raised this year was the highest ever in the five-year history of the tournament being a charity event. The previous record for the highest amount raised at PowerStream–s Annual Charity Golf Tournament was set in 2011, when the event brought in more than $75,000. Since 2008, the golf tournament has generated over $300,000 for the two United Way organizations that PowerStream supports.
The PowerStream tournament has become one of the largest golf events hosted by a utility in Ontario–s electricity industry with more than 75 sponsors, 375 golfers and 35 volunteers returning every year. Sponsorships for the 2012 tournament sold out in less than six weeks.
This year–s tournament featured the participation of three National Hockey League (NHL) alumni players. Daryl Sittler, who played most of his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Frank Mahovolich, who played with both the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens and Jim McKenny, who also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs. NHL legends, Sittler and Mahovolich, golfed and assisted in some of the other fundraising activities held during the tournament with McKenny acting as the evening–s emcee.
