On December 19, Air Canada Centre is slam dunking carbon pollution by offering fans the chance to carbon offset their game commutes.
Ticket holders for the Toronto Raptors vs. Detroit Pistons game who want to show their green spirit can visit and register to have their travel to and from the arena carbon neutralized for free by Just Energy® and Air Canada Centre.
Just Energy, North America–s green energy and offset expert, and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment work together to offset of Air Canada Centre–s greenhouse gas emissions – through Just Energy–s carbon offset service JustGreen Lifestyle.
The green partnership – which is heading into its fourth straight year – has helped Air Canada Centre to become one of North American–s greenest arenas, providing more than 6.7 million lbs of carbon offsets, annually.
“The primary goal is always to reduce environmental impacts first through greener choices and Air Canada Centre does an admirable job in reducing waste, energy consumption and making sustainable choices,” says Ken Hartwick, CEO Just Energy. “The good news is we can all do more to counterbalance the carbon pollution we create – on game day and in our own lives, which is where carbon offsetting comes in.”
JustGreen Lifestyle carbon offsets support green initiatives, like solar projects and methane gas capture programs at landfills. Carbon offsets help to counterbalance the environmental impacts of driving to the game, heating Air Canada Centre, running the scoreboards, concession stands and more.
“The average ticketholder travels 25.5 km to attend a game at Air Canada Centre,” says Bryan Leslie, Director, Building Operations and Team Up Green, Air Canada Centre. “Whether you–re a season ticket holder or a casual visitor – every commute contributes to carbon pollution, so it–s important to learn how you can help,” adds Leslie.
“Our hope for this green game is to educate fans on carbon offsetting so that they–ll be inspired to learn what they can do in their own homes to help fight global warming, just like Air Canada Centre,” he says.
