Texas Disposal Systems Recognized for Ethical Business Practices

AUSTIN, TX — (Marketwired) — 05/07/13 — Texas Disposal Systems (TDS) has had a busy year so far with a number of prestigious awards coming its way. RecognizeGood at their 11th Annual Ethics in Business & Community Awards bestowed the company–s latest award, in the large business category.

TDS was a finalist alongside some of Central Texas– most respected businesses in that category, including the other finalists Frost Bank and IBM.

RecognizeGood () acknowledges businesses and individuals in Central Texas who have been nominated as exemplary ethical leaders demonstrating outstanding ethical practices and business principles. Those include respect, fairness, honesty, justice and sustainability.

Locally-owned TDS, which offers residential, commercial and industrial solid waste services, as well as recycling and composting solutions across the state, was recognized for its ethical business practices, support of the Austin non-profit community, and its proven commitment to keep the best interests of customers, employees, the community, and the environment a priority.

In March, the company also was recognized with the Ebby Halliday and Maurice Acers Business and Industry category in the Keep Texas Beautiful awards. ()

“This Ethics in Business & Community Award is a great honor for us,” said TDS Marketing Director Jennifer Gregory. “TDS was built on a foundation of the ethical principles we still operate with today, now 36 years later. To be recognized for the manner in which we operate our business in a category with such prestigious businesses is a great honor.”

TDS–s landfill was the first ever in Texas to receive a permit for its totally integrated landfill that combines disposal, recycling and composting within its operations. Committed to diverting as many materials as possible from landfill burial, TDS has numerous programs to educate and assist its customers to reach their disposal, recycling, and composting goals. “Maximum Diversion is our goal in all of the customized programs we offer,” notes Gregory.

TDS also owns and operates an exotic game ranch and event facility, directly downwind from the landfill, demonstrating that a properly run landfill can be a good neighbor. More than 2,000 animals from more than 100 different species live on the exotic game ranch. TDS invites qualified nonprofit organizations to use its pavilion at no charge for educational, recognition and fundraising events. To date, TDS has helped nonprofit organizations raise more than $20 million at events held onsite.

Students at the College of Business at Concordia University Texas vetted the nominations for the Ethics in Business & Community Awards, narrowing the field to three finalists in each category. The categories include individuals, nonprofit organizations, small business and large business. The students conducted a rigorous, in-depth review of each finalist and presented their findings to an independent selection committee of business and community leaders.

Proceeds from the awards ceremony, which took place at a May 2 luncheon at the AT&T Conference Center, benefit the Samaritan Counseling Center.
