Newalta Reports Voting Results of Election of Directors and Announces Appointment of New Board Member

CALGARY, ALBERTA — (Marketwired) — 05/08/13 — Newalta Corporation (“Newalta”) (TSX: NAL) reported that at its annual meeting of shareholders held on May 7, 2013, each of the eight nominees proposed as directors and listed in its proxy statement and information circular dated March 22, 2013 were elected as directors of Newalta.

Newalta also announced the appointment of Michael Starzer to its Board of Directors. Mr. Starzer has over 29 years of experience in the U.S. oil and gas industry, and has served in numerous positions evaluating and developing oil, gas, electricity and geothermal resources. Mr. Starzer is currently the President and CEO of Bonanza Creek Energy, Inc., a Denver, Colorado based exploration and production company that he co-founded. Previously, he served as an Officer, Manager and a Vice President of Berry Petroleum Company, Inc., and prior to that, held various positions at Unocal and California State Lands Commission. Mr. Starzer presently serves on the board of Bonanza Creek Energy, Inc.
