Ducks Unlimited Canada announces Dr. Karla Guyn as National Director Conservation

STONEWALL, MANITOBA — (Marketwired) — 05/17/13 — Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is pleased to announce that Dr. Karla Guyn has been named National Director Conservation. Guyn assumes the role on July 1, 2013.

“Karla–s genuine passion for the outdoors and her extensive experience in the field of wetland and waterfowl conservation makes her an excellent fit for this key position within our organization,” says DUC chief executive officer, Greg Siekaniec. “Under Karla–s leadership, DUC will continue delivering conservation excellence as we strive to conserve wetlands that are so important to waterfowl, wildlife, people and the environment.”

Guyn has a strong history with DUC, and has gained valuable experience since joining our team in 1998. In her past roles, Guyn has overseen the national engineering group, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) staff and the Institute for Wetland and Waterfowl Research (IWWR). Guyn has worked closely with the DUC board of directors, the Prairie Habitat Joint Venture, and her colleagues within Ducks Unlimited Inc. in the United States. Guyn–s diverse knowledge and skills in these areas will continue moving DUC forward as the leader in North American wetland conservation.

Guyn–s education includes a technical diploma in Wildlife from Lethbridge College, a B.Sc. in Wildlife Biology from the University of Montana, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Biology from the University of Saskatchewan.

As a member of the DUC executive team, Guyn will lead the organization in all areas of DUC–s conservation programs, including direct habitat programs, conservation policy development, science, education and the for-profit Native Plant Solutions. While working closely with DUC–s board of directors, she will also serve as the senior liaison to the conservation programs delivered by Ducks Unlimited Inc. in the United States and the North American Waterfowl Management Plan.
