No More Tradeoffs: Canadians Believe Governments Can Deliver on Jobs & the Environment

TORONTO, ONTARIO — (Marketwired) — 10/09/13 — Days before the Speech from the Throne, Canadians say jobs don–t have to be sacrificed for a healthier environment according to new research from Bullfrog Power, Canada–s green energy provider. In a , more than half of Canadians (59 per cent) said trade offs don–t need to be made between jobs and the environment. Across the country this view is most strongly held by Albertans with 75 per cent agreeing, while Quebecers are the least likely to share this opinion with less than half agreeing (44 per cent).

“Bullfrog Power has long made the case that what is good for the environment is good for business,” said Peter Melanson, CEO, Bullfrog Power. “The latest Bullfrog Barometer moves the conversation forward by showing that Canadians believe that now is the time to realize Canada–s green growth potential.”

The majority of Canadians (68 per cent) believe that protecting the environment improves economic growth and provides new jobs, compared to only a quarter (26 per cent) who believe protecting the environment reduces economic growth and costs jobs. Residents of Manitoba and Saskatchewan (74 per cent) most strongly believe in this potential, followed by Quebecers (71 per cent) and Ontarians (70 per cent). British Columbians are the least likely to agree (58 per cent).

The Bullfrog Barometer also reveals specific actions the government can take to address the environment citing the following three areas as the most important:

Bullfrog Power, in partnership with Environics Research Group, surveyed Canadians 18+ to measure their opinions on the environment and economy.
