Newfoundland Power Receives PUB Ruling on Pole Deal

ST. JOHN–S, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR — (Marketwire) — 07/25/11 — Newfoundland Power Inc.–s (Newfoundland Power) application requesting approval of the sale of certain utility poles to Bell Aliant Regional Communications Inc. (Bell Aliant) has been denied by the Newfoundland and Labrador Board of Commissioners of Public Utilities (PUB).

In 2001, Newfoundland Power purchased Bell Aliant–s joint-use poles under a 10-year agreement, which expired December 31, 2010. Bell Aliant gave notice of its intention not to renew the agreement, and instead exercised their option to buy these poles back from Newfoundland Power.

“Newfoundland Power is now reviewing its options, which include whether to seek leave to appeal the PUB decision,” says Earl Ludlow, President and Chief Executive Officer, Newfoundland Power.
