SAN DIEGO, CA — (Marketwire) — 10/18/11 — enXco — an EDF Energies Nouvelles Company today announced the Lakefield Wind Project, located in Jackson County (southwestern) Minnesota, is fully operational and supplying electricity to the regional transmission grid. The project will deliver carbon-free electricity into the MISO transmission system for the benefit of Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) generation portfolio under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement for 200 megawatts.
The project, developed by enXco, consists of 137 General Electric (GE) 1.5 megawatt turbines with the capacity to generate renewable energy for more than 68,000 homes. Construction on the Lakefield Wind Project commenced in late September 2010 after eight years of dedicated development efforts.
“enXco is once again pleased to extend our experience and successful relationship with Indianapolis Power & Light Company to deliver the economic and renewable benefits from the Lakefield Wind Project,” said Kate O–Hair, midwest regional director for enXco. “Lakefield marks our second wind project to develop and build with IPL — the 106 MW Hoosier Wind Project in Benton County Indiana began delivering electricity in November 2009. We look forward to being a continued partner with IPL and the communities of Minnesota to further our efforts to supply clean energy to the nation–s grid.”
Lakefield Wind Project further represents enXco–s ninth wind project developed in Minnesota for a total of 914.5 MW and also the largest wind energy project to be built in Minnesota since enXco–s Fenton Wind Project. This project brings enXco–s gross installed wind energy capacity to 1,141 MW.
