SCHENECTADY, NY — (Marketwired) — 12/02/14 — Auterra Inc., the clean energy company which develops catalyst and process technology for the oil industry, has appointed Steven T. Jackson Vice President of Engineering, to build the firm–s engineering team in support of its FlexDS commercialization activity. Auterra–s is a low-cost, low-energy desulfurization and upgrading process.

FlexDS is two-step chemical upgrading process that uses air and water to reduce hetero-atom content and reduce density of heavy, sour oil feeds. It is the first process that the company intends to commercialize and it can be utilized in both upstream operations and downstream refineries where traditional hydrogen based technologies are too expensive.
Jackson will be responsible for pre-sales testing and engineering support, front-end engineering support for new units as well as start-up and on-going support for Auterra–s installed base. Initially he will be working at the firm–s headquarters to finalize scale-up engineering design work. Jackson will be responsible for opening Auterra–s Houston, Texas, office next year when the company begins business development and sales efforts. The Houston office will provide engineering and technical services for all global customers.

Jackson had previously served as VP of Process Improvement and VP of Refining and Transportation with Hunt Refining Company in Alabama. With over 35 years– experience in the oil industry, Jackson brings expertise in refinery operations, crude oil transportation, process engineering and optimization.
Jackson served on various committees and advisory groups for American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) to increase industry effectiveness and safety of operations. These include the AFPM Manufacturing Committee from 2001 to 2014, the AFPM Issues Committee from 2011 to 2014, and the AFPM Fuels Committee from 2012 to 2014. He also served on the AFPM/API Operating Practices Advisory Committee from 2008 to 2014.
