Burns & McDonnell Awarded Program Management Role for Two PSE&G Transmission Upgrade Projects

PISCATAWAY, NJ — (Marketwire) — 08/07/12 — Burns & McDonnell, an international full-service engineering, architecture, construction, environmental and consulting services firm, announced today it has been awarded a program management role on two Public Service Electric & Gas Company (PSE&G) upcoming projects.

The company will provide coordinated management, planning and design services on behalf of PSE&G on two proposed large-scale electric transmission infrastructure improvements projects: the Southern Reinforcement Project and the Underground Transmission Initiative.

The Southern Reinforcement Project is comprised of 16 miles of underground 230 kilovolt transmission lines, 9.4 miles of new 230 kilovolt overhead transmission line, 12.4 miles of reconductored 230 kilovolt transmission line, and enhancements to 3 substations. The Underground Transmission Initiative consists of 6 miles of new 230 kilovolt underground transmission line, various improvements at substation connections, as well as 14 reconductoring projects.

The Southern Reinforcement Project is located in Camden and Gloucester Counties of New Jersey, and the Underground Transmission Initiative is in the Greater Newark area.

The two projects, designed to significantly improve long-term electric reliability in New Jersey, have a total estimated project cost of $955.5 million. Burns & McDonnell–s efforts have commenced, with construction anticipated to begin on both projects by the fourth quarter of 2012, with expected completion on the Southern Reinforcement Project in mid-2015 and the Underground Transmission Initiative during 2016.

As many as 40 employee-owners will be utilized throughout the duration of the project, with additional support stemming from the company–s New England Regional Office located in Wallingford, CT.
