NEW YORK, NY — (Marketwire) — 03/14/12 — Con Edison has named Mary Sprayregen director of Federal Government Relations, responsible for Con Edison–s relationships and strategy in Washington.
Sprayregen previously served as a senior legislative assistant for Congressman Peter Welch. Her role included advising the congressman on energy, telecom, transportation, and financial policy issues. Between 2007 and 2009, Mary served as Welch–s business liaison securing grant and job-creation opportunities with federal agencies, offering businesses assistance and information about proposed legislation, regulations, and possible economic development impacts and opportunities in Vermont.
Prior to joining Congressman Welch in 2007, Sprayregen spent four years as the director of Government Affairs for the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce and Greater Burlington Industrial Corporation (GBIC), where she lobbied on legislative issues in the areas of transportation, energy, health care, and workers– compensation.
Mary also served as a Burlington International Airport commissioner and as a board member of the GBIC. She also lived overseas, where she was an English teacher in Rome and studied as an undergraduate in Geneva. In 2012, she completed a Bertelsmann Foundation Congressional-European Parliament Initiatives (CEPI) Energy Fellowship in Brussels. (The Bertelsmann Foundation–s program seeks to strengthen relationships between European and American legislative staffers.) She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Skidmore College.
