Covanta Continues Commitment to Safety — Covanta Field Service–s Florida Maintenance Shop and Mid-Atlantic Crew Named OSHA VPP STARs

MORRISTOWN, NJ — (Marketwired) — 10/07/13 — Covanta Energy Corporation, a world leader in sustainable waste management and renewable energy, is pleased to announce that the Covanta Field Services (CFS) maintenance and fabrication shop in Hernando, Fla. and the Covanta Field Services Mid-Atlantic mobile workforce have earned STAR status in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration–s Voluntary Protection Program (OSHA VPP).

Covanta Field Services teams travel to Covanta–s Energy-from-Waste (EfW) facilities to perform maintenance activities, typically during scheduled boiler outages. The CFS work is instrumental in assuring Covanta–s boilers, turbine generators and cranes perform at optimal levels. The CFS shop in Hernando fabricates boiler tubes for Covanta boilers and applies inconel alloys to boiler tubes to enhance performance at high combustion temperatures. The shop also prepares other essential equipment for Covanta–s EfW facilities.

VPP STAR status is the highest honor awarded to organizations with comprehensive, successful safety and health management systems. Workplaces and work teams such as CFS are committed to effective employee protection beyond the requirements of federal standards and participants develop and implement systems to effectively identify, evaluate, prevent, and control occupational hazards to prevent injuries and illnesses.
