OAK HAMMOCK MARSH, MANITOBA — (Marketwired) — 06/06/13 — As the reigning Olympic champion in men–s skeleton, Jon Montgomery has been in his fair share of amazing races. Now, this gold medal hero and Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) ambassador is adding something new to his repertoire of fast-paced, high adrenaline and uniquely Canadian endeavors as the host of The Amazing Race Canada.
DUC joins the chorus of Canadians who are celebrating the news of Montgomery–s role on this highly anticipated TV series. He will continue to be an excellent, enthusiast ambassador for the many spectacular natural areas that make Canada special as he leads contestants in this unique, once-in-a-lifetime race around the country.
“I–d like to thank everyone at The Amazing Race Canada for giving me this great opportunity and the experience of a lifetime,” says Montgomery. “If Canadians have half as much fun watching the show as we did making it, it–ll be a huge success. I know viewers will be proud to see our beautiful country showcased in this great program.”
Since his gold medal win at the 2010 Winter Games and memorable victory walk through Whistler village, Montgomery has become well known as a proud Canadian who believes in giving back. Conservation efforts, including preserving fresh water, wildlife habitat and places where people can be active outdoors, have always been important to Montgomery. That–s why, in the fall of 2012, he joined the DUC team to help bring awareness to wetland conservation and the many benefits it provides to society.
“Jon–s endearing personality, passion for the outdoors and fierce pride for all things Canadian made him a perfect fit for Ducks Unlimited Canada – and now also The Amazing Race Canada,” says Greg Siekaniec, CEO for DUC. “Come July 15th when the show airs, we will be cheering him on as he travels to many areas that our conservation efforts support.”
DUC is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2013. Montgomery is also lending his support to these celebrations through a special campaign called the “Year of the Conservation Champion.” During the 75th anniversary year, Montgomery is building a conservation community and challenging every Canadian to make a difference. His goal is encouraging all 34 million Canadians to get involved and get outdoors.
Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is the leader in wetland conservation.
