E Source Launches DSM Insights

BOULDER, CO — (Marketwired) — 10/31/13 — E Source has launched DSM Insights, an interactive industry intelligence platform that provides utilities and their partners with aggregated demand-side management (DSM) investment and performance data. DSM Insights draws its information from hard-to-find source documents, such as public utility commission filings, and makes the data easily accessible to help utilities maximize their return on investment. Using the tool, utilities can explore and compare portfolio- and program-level data on spending, savings, cost-effectiveness (cost per kilowatt-hour, per kilowatt, or per therm), participation, performance (planned versus actual), and more.

“DSM Insights is the only tool in the marketplace that–s a one-stop-shop for DSM program performance data,” says Bryan Jungers, E Source software product manager. “Our aim is to ease the pain for utilities and their partners by eliminating the need to navigate state-level filing systems. We provide a single, searchable repository, along with powerful tools, to help them gain insight into budgets and impacts.”

E Source has partnered with QuadROI to provide ongoing software development and data production for the DSM Insights database. “QuadROI is a leader in taking unstructured data and making it accessible and easy to use,” says Wendy Bloechle, vice president of Research & Product Management at E Source. “Combining QuadROI–s powerful tools for data discovery and visualization with E Source–s unbiased research has created a robust source of DSM information that was never easily available before.”

This E Source tool will help utility DSM departments benchmark themselves against other utilities in virtually all areas of program performance as well as provide best practices for improving cost-effectiveness. Consultants and implementation contractors that support utility DSM efforts can use this powerful platform for market intelligence and business development purposes. The scope of aggregated data in DSM Insights includes:

Information on electric and gas utility-funded energy-efficiency, load management, and renewable energy programs

A detailed breakdown of program-level spending — including incentives, marketing, and delivery — and impacts, as measured in kilowatts, kilowatt-hours, therms, and number of participants

A list of the top 100-plus program administrators, accounting for more than 80 percent of industry spending

Original source documentation, allowing users to gain context and additional details by jumping directly to a page in a PDF document, for example, where specific program data is located

Coverage of both planned and actual (reported and evaluated) program performance

“We could not have a better partner and team to work with in bringing insights to utility decision-makers. E Source stands alone in the breadth of its advisory services and the depth of its relationships and expertise, built over more than a quarter of a century serving its members,” says Mark Brown, QuadROI–s founder. “Our goal is to free DSM Insights subscribers from the pain of wasting resources by searching for information, allowing them to focus on creating value for their customers.”
