EDF Renewable Energy, KCP&L, Gov. Sam Brownback Dedicate the Spearville 3 Wind Project

SPEARVILLE, KS — (Marketwire) — 10/25/12 — EDF Renewable Energy, formerly enXco, and KCP&L celebrate the commissioning of the Spearville 3 Wind Project today with a dedication ceremony. The 100.8 MW (installed capacity) wind project began delivering carbon-free electricity into the KCP&L generation portfolio earlier this month.

EDF Renewable Energy developed and built the Spearville 3 Wind Project, while KCP&L will purchase the power generated under a 20-year power purchase agreement. The project, consisting of 63 General Electric (GE) XLE turbines, generates enough electricity to supply approximately 40,000 average homes with renewable energy. EDF Renewable Services, formerly enXco Service Corporation, will provide operations and maintenance services.

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback was also on hand for the dedication.

“The creation of new jobs, spurring investment and technological innovation while helping revitalize our rural parts of Kansas are top priorities of my Administration,” said Kansas Governor Sam Brownback. “The Spearville 3 Wind Farm developed by EDF Renewable Energy is an outstanding example of the confluence of these objectives. I also applaud Kansas City Power & Light for its support of the Spearville 3 Wind Project as a way to provide a diverse and affordable power supply to its customers.”

“The development of renewable energy is a critically important task for the nation. It takes commitment on the part of policy makers, landowners, community leaders, utilities and developers working in partnership over many years to bring a project to fruition, which in turn brings direct and indirect economic benefits to the local community,” said Ryan Pfaff, Executive Vice President of EDF Renewable Energy. “We are pleased to expand upon our relationship with KCP&L which has once again demonstrated trust and confidence in EDF Renewable Energy to deliver a wind project to diversify its generation portfolio.”

“This new wind energy facility is just one of the renewable energy projects that help KCP&L continue to meet current and future renewable energy requirements in Kansas and Missouri,” said Terry Bassham, KCP&L President and Chief Executive Officer. “In addition, we believe this partnership with EDF Renewable Energy will bring significant benefits to both our customers and shareholders by taking advantage of wind, an abundant renewable resource.”

As part of EDF Renewable Energy–s community investment efforts, the company presented two contributions in the amount of $2,500 each to the Ford County Conservation District Scholarship Fund and the Ford County 4-H Council respectively.
