SALT LAKE CITY, UT — (Marketwire) — 03/21/12 — EnergySolutions (NYSE: ES) today announced that the partnership it has formed with Environmental Dimensions Inc. has been awarded a $200M contract for Waste Characterization, Processing and Waste Operations Services for the U.S. Department of Energy–s Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
The scope of work includes all aspects of radioactive and hazardous waste management including; planning, storage, movement, characterization, processing, and packaging at RCRA, radiological, and nuclear facilities.
“We are thrilled to be working with Environmental Dimensions, Inc.(EDI) and are grateful for the confidence and trust LANL has placed in our team,” said Val Christensen, President and CEO of EnergySolutions. “EDI and we have worked extremely hard over the last several months to create a strong value proposition for our customer and are proud and pleased to execute this work on their behalf.”
EnergySolutions and EDI will place particular emphasis on transuranic (TRU) waste retrieval, characterization, processing, and packaging for disposal at the WIPP site in southeastern NM. The TRU Waste Program at LANL has taken center stage since the historic Las Conchas fire last summer. LANL has signed an agreement with the Governor of New Mexico to remove all above ground TRU waste and ship to WIPP by June 2014. This contract will be the principal means by which LANL accomplishes this milestone.
“We are excited about this new opportunity and the ability to expand our five year working relationship with EnergySolutions at LANL,” said Patricia Bradshaw, President of EDi. “Our Team, EnergySolutions, Los Alamos Technical Associates, and the Lakeworth Group have over 70 years of experience working at the Laboratory. We all look forward to bringing that depth of knowledge to help LANL process the TRU waste so that it can be safely removed from the site.”
EnergySolutions offers customers a full range of integrated services and solutions, including nuclear operations, characterization, decommissioning, decontamination, site closure, transportation, nuclear materials management, processing, recycling, and disposition of nuclear waste, and research and engineering services across the nuclear fuel cycle.
