Green Mountain Power Union Employees Ratify Five-Year Contract

COLCHESTER, VT — (Marketwire) — 01/15/13 — Green Mountain Power and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 300 announced today that the Company–s 300 union employees voted to ratify a new five-year contract.

The contract brings all union employees together under one contract for the newly merged company.

“It is highly unusual that newly merged companies are able to combine union contracts and blend so quickly and effectively to form one strong working unit,” said Mary Powell, president and chief executive officer of Green Mountain Power. “In fact, some companies go for years without being able to merge contracts. I give great credit to the deeply knowledgeable and dedicated union and management representatives who made an intense effort to develop fair and consistent practices to support our service to Vermonters.”

Jeff Wimette, IBEW Local 300 business manager, said, “Union members and GMP management both acknowledged the importance of reaching a contract that benefited customers while honoring and respecting matters of importance to union employees.”

Green Mountain Power and Central Vermont Public Service, which merged earlier this year, have employees who are members of the same union, but had separate union contracts that were not changed by the merger. The Company and its union members worked hard to create a new contract for all union employees.

“We are so lucky to have a union strongly invested in creating opportunities to provide better service to our customers at lower cost,” said Powell. “Aligning two contracts allows us to provide fair and consistent compensation packages and practices to employees who now are working side by side.”

The contract provides for opportunities to serve customers at lower cost, which will help meet the $144 million in savings for customers over the next ten years that GMP guaranteed.

The new contract takes effect on January 1, 2013.
