MANCHESTER, NH — (Marketwired) — 12/02/14 — Xeros, the innovator of an , announced today that a Massachusetts hotel earned a $9,369 incentive from National Grid as part of a program to promote various energy-saving cleaning technologies. Polymer bead technology washing machines are proven to dramatically reduce natural gas and water usage. This ongoing program awards financial incentives under the Federal Energy Management Program–s Energy Incentive Program after specific pre-determined energy savings milestones are met.
Traditional laundry machines used in hotels, hospitals and other commercial applications use a tremendous amount of energy to heat the water required for the cleaning process. In contrast, this new technology changes the most basic operating principles of the washing machine by replacing the massive quantities of hot water used in traditional washing machines with beads made from a special stain-absorbing polymer. By replacing water with polymer beads as the active ingredient for removing stains from fabrics, the polymer bead machines typically use up to 80% less water than a traditional commercial washing machine as well as lower temperatures, thus reducing the amount of natural gas that is consumed to heat water for the laundry process.
The Choice Hotel property is the first hotel to receive this cleaning technology incentive from National Grid after installing the Xeros Commercial Laundry System. RISE Engineering conducted an extensive technical assistance study at the hotel including the metering of energy and water usage for the Xeros Commercial Laundry System and an industry standard machine. The Xeros polymer bead machine demonstrated a 98% reduction in natural gas usage and a 70% reduction in water usage. An incentive from National Grid of $9,369 was secured because of these remarkable energy savings reaped at this local Massachusetts hotel.
