GOLDEN VALLEY, MN — (Marketwire) — 11/14/12 — From kitchen fires and candle accidents to Christmas tree fires and cigarette mistakes, home fires can be caused by some simple yet preventable mishaps.
KARE 11 reporter Boyd Huppert brings these home dangers into view in his KARE 11 EXTRA “Surviving Fires,” Wednesday, November 14 and Thursday, November 15 at 10 p.m.
“We will literally burn a house to the ground, room by room, focusing on the origins of fires that claim dozens of lives in Minnesota each year,” said Boyd Huppert, KARE 11 reporter.
KARE 11 worked in concert with the St. Paul and Coon Rapids fire departments, employing more than a dozen cameras in a Twin Cities home to record the progress of fires from start to finish.
“People may be surprised to know how seemingly harmless appliances, decorations, and even potted plants can lead to deadly fires,” said Huppert.
Wednesday–s 10 p.m. report profiles the survivor of a kitchen fire. Her first-hand account helps demonstrate what you can do to prevent a similar disaster in your own home.
On Thursday at 10 p.m., Huppert reports on a Christmas day fire that nearly claimed the life of a Twin Cities father. The two-part series will contain other fire safety issues including toasters, candles, cigarettes, and garage concerns.
