HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA — (Marketwire) — 08/14/12 — WWF-Canada conservation staff will be attending several shark derbies in Nova Scotia during the month of August in order to share information about sharks – the species that are in Atlantic Canadian waters, the threats they face, what needs to be done to protect them from these threats, and what people, including industry, are trying to do to ensure sharks thrive in Canadian waters. Before the derbies, WWF will also be training Derby participants on best shark handling practices, in order to minimize harm to sharks that are released back into the water.
WWF staff members, Tonya Wimmer and Bettina Saier, will be happy to speak with the media during these derbies about our shark conservation program, and they will be identifiable by their WWF ball hats. Staff will also be available for comment in advance of the derbies.
