New Court-The Worthy Winner of BLP/RIBA London Building of the Year Award

LONDON, ENGLAND — (Marketwire) — 07/03/12 — This year BLP once again sponsored the RIBA London Building of the Year Award, which this year was awarded to New Court by OMA with Allies and Morrison at the RIBA London Awards.

Technical Director, Jeff Maxted, presented the award saying: “BLP has sponsored this award again this year because we have been providing construction insurance for over 20 years and worked with many excellent architects who continue to drive an increase in innovation in the construction sector. Innovation of course does create some nervousness amongst funders, developers and property owners. That leads them to seek additional security through latent defects insurance.”

He added that the shortlist for every Award showed just how diverse and exciting London–s architecture is in 2012 and how well London–s heritage and traditional buildings can be integrated with revolutionary, innovative contemporary vision. In particular, he noted the return of the tower to London and, although none has a Traitor–s Gate or resident rooks, Jeff commented that they all seem to have catchy names – The Shard, the Walkie Talkie, the Cheesegrater, the Heron Tower and the Pinnacle.

The winners, OMA and Allies and Morrison were awarded the top prize for their work on New Court, the new London headquarters for Rothschild. The 21,000m2 building is embedded in the narrow medieval alley of St Swithin–s Lane in the heart of the City of London. It preserves and enhances the rich heritage that surrounds it while contributing a new dimension to the area.

Notes for editors:

BLP offers an innovative, revolutionary approach to defects insurance for new buildings and refurbishments in commercial and mixed schemes as their policies give clients not only what they want, but what they need.

Unlike traditional new homes warranties, BLP–s insurance covers the building – not the developer – and does not ask developers to pay up front registration fees, ongoing membership fees, bonds, guarantees or deposits.

For claims, only proof of damage is required not proof of liability. BLP–s cover is approved by the majority of British mortgage lenders.

BLP has long standing relationships with architects, brokers, designers, builders, developers, housing associations and professionals to the building, pension and insurance sectors. Some of their clients are: Land Securities Plc, Catalyst Communities Housing Association Ltd, Scottish Widows Investment Partnership, Newlon Housing Trust, George James Associates LLP, H Waites Ltd, Kilpark Properties, ZeroC Holdings Ltd, Pygott & Crone, PG Vosser & Associates and The Vinden Partnership.

BLP (Building LifePlans Limited) was incorporated in 1999 and is a subsidiary of Thomas Miller. It is regulated by the FSA and backed by Allianz Global Corporate & Speciality AG (UK branch) which has an AA insurer star rating.
