LANCASTER, NY — (Marketwired) — 06/05/13 — In recognition of World Environment Day, Ecology and Environment, Inc. (E & E) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2013 Project Earth World Environment Day Contest. Over six hundred environmental projects in schools from more than sixty countries were entered on the Project Earth website () for this year–s contest and the best projects were selected from each participating country.
Launched in 2010 by E & E, Project Earth is an interactive online environmental education platform that fosters global knowledge transfer by empowering students and teachers around the world to share their environmental projects with one another. Since its creation, students from over 2,600 schools in 132 countries have posted more than 2,900 projects on the Project Earth web-site.
Participating schools use text, photos, and videos to describe a wide variety of projects, such as energy efficiency measures, waste reduction efforts, cleanups, and education programs. Schools can review each other–s projects in multiple languages and send messages to their peers around the world.
Project Earth has hosted World Environment Day Contests since 2011. “We continue to be impressed with the hard work and creativity of the next generation when it comes to learning how to live in a way that respects our planet–s precious and limited resources,” said E & E president and CEO Kevin Neumaier. “If today–s students can learn from each other, and work with each other, we can be hopeful that their generation will be able to take the steps necessary to address the pressing environmental challenges they stand to inherit.”
