PSE&G, Alabama Power and ComEd Sharing Best Practices and Lessons Learned at the marcus evans 13th Annual Outage Response & Restoration Management Conference

SAN ANTONIO, TX — (Marketwired) — 09/30/13 — , the world–s largest event management group, will host the 13th Annual Outage Response & Restoration Management Conference, October 21-23, 2013 in San Antonio, TX. Twenty four leading experts will provide insights on strengthening mutual assistance coordination and storm preparation programs.

After Hurricane Sandy this past year, regulation from various state public utility commissions (especially those in the Northeast) has increased the pressure on utilities to restore the power in a time-efficient manner. If electric utilities do not restore power to their customers based off the expectations and requirements laid out by the regulators, they can face millions of dollars in fines. These astronomical fines, plus the pressure to meet customers– demands, are major reasons why utilities are constantly looking to improve their storm response methods and increase restoration times.

All companies and contractors in the utility industry, even those not directly impacted by Sandy, are focused now more than ever on developing new methods and protocols based on lessons learned from the Superstorm. At the October conference, Ernie Cadiz, Manager – Delivery Operations Support at PSE&G, will share his company–s story about the Energy Strong Proposal and how it will improve their grid operations.

The 3 day meeting will also include best practice sharing from Alabama Power, ComEd, Pacific Gas & Electric, Duke Energy, Georgia Power, Macrosoft Inc., National Grid and others. Additional presentations will focus on the various facets that make up the overall outage restoration process. This conference will keep utilities up to date with the various technologies, regulations, and best practices to implement within their outage management efforts. The purpose marcus evans 13th Annual Outage Response & Restoration Management Conference will offer information and strategies for utilities to enhance their mutual assistance, emergency management, field and workforce operations, distribution technology, control center operations, and reliability metrics.

The effects of Hurricane Sandy are not the only new aspect for this year–s edition. Different from last year, our industry experts will discuss:

1. Getting into more comprehensive details when preparing for mutual assistance and emergency management events
2. Ensuring that linemen are not only getting the power back up, but communicating accurate ETR information back to the control centers to properly inform the customers
3. Managing the utility workforce, along with contractors, when out in the field during large-scale outages
4. Damage assessment processes to properly manage control center expectations and have better real-time information readily available
5. Reliability metrics (SAIDI/CAIDI/SAIFI) that utilities need to adhere to — which ones do different companies use, and what types of outages do they decide to include when benchmarking against these metrics (transmission vs. distribution outages)
