AUSTIN, TX — (Marketwire) — 03/27/13 — Austin-based Rock Candy Life (RCL) shower curtains have been selected by TreeHouse to be featured in their new bath section. RCL–s designer patterns appeal to a wide demographic, fitting for TreeHouse customers who range from college students to empty-nesters.
Rock Candy Life designs eco-friendly, chic shower curtains. Following the bespoke trend, each pattern is printed once and is available only as long as supplies last. At its core, RCL–s mission is to provide stylish items for the home that do not come at a cost to either consumer health or the environment. RCL shower curtains are printed on non-toxic, biodegradable, recyclable PEVA. This combination of stylish design and ecological consciousness earned the brand a mention in Jessica Alba–s guide to natural parenting The Honest Life.
Rock Candy Media, an entrepreneurial design and marketing firm that burst onto the Austin scene four years ago, introduced the Rock Candy Life product line when Founder Annie Liao Jones saw a hole in the shower curtain market. “My friends would buy the plastic liners and put them out in the sun to evaporate the toxins for an entire day before bringing them inside,” Jones says, “That–s when I even started thinking about the everyday items in our home that emit off-gasses. And usually if I found something eco-friendly, it wasn–t design-friendly.”
Elizabeth Pope, Better Living Department Head at TreeHouse recounts how she discovered the local shower curtain designers: “I stumbled onto Rock Candy Life while doing a Google search for non-toxic shower curtains. Current and future patterns are eye-catching and will look great in our displays. We like that they are limited prints, rather than mass-produced, and I got really excited when I learned they–re located right in town.” The South Austin home improvement superstore offers home improvement products with a focus on health, performance, sustainability, and corporate responsibility.
A little research revealed that RCL customers consistently praised the curtains– resistance to mold, and the fact that they do not require an additional shower liner. In Pope–s view, eliminating the need for an excess piece of material is another way to reduce waste.
“We–re thrilled to be going into TreeHouse–s new bath department. The two brands take a playful, aesthetics-oriented approach to eco-friendly housewares. We look forward to a long, mutually beneficial partnership with such a progressive company,” said Rock Candy Media Principal Annie Liao Jones.
TreeHouse, located at 4477 S. Lamar Blvd, will begin carrying the RCL brand Spring 2013.
