NEW YORK, NY — (Marketwired) — 04/18/13 — Being eco-conscious doesn–t have to mean sacrificing all creature comforts. As Earth Day approaches, it–s a good time to remember that even the little things can make a big impact. Today, Seamless (), the leading mobile and online service for ordering delivery and takeout food from more than 12,000 top restaurants in the U.S. and UK, released data revealing that when given the choice, Seamless members are increasingly choosing to be mindful of their eco footprint. In fact, eco-friendly orders in which people request restaurants to hold the utensils and napkins increased by 155 percent from 2010 to 2011, and another 216 percent from 2011 to 2012. The company also saw a drastic increase in the number of green orders placed on Earth Day in 2011 versus 2012, growing 270 percent.
Congrats to the city by the bay! Seamless also released a list of the top three greenest cities*:
1. San Francisco
2. Chicago
3. Los Angeles
“We–re thrilled to see a steady increase in our eco-friendly program from both members and restaurant partners since it launched in 2009,” said Jonathan Zabusky, CEO of Seamless. “Whether you–re at the office or eating at home, using reusable utensils, cups and plates is an easy way to minimize waste and positively impact the environment.”
So far in 2013, Seamless has processed an average of nearly 150,000 monthly green orders, accounting for more than one million napkins and sets of utensils, and expects to save millions more over the course of the year. This will benefit the restaurant partners as well as they will not have to waste money on items that will just be thrown away. The company also provides restaurant partners with environmentally preferable bags, both saving them money on buying their own and providing a simple green solution.
To sign up for eco-friendly ordering, just edit your delivery details in your account settings and select the option for “I–m eco-friendly! No plastic utensils or napkins, please.”
