The UK Government has set aside around GBP 15 million to enable up to 25,000 installations, with GBP 12 million on offer to domestic customers. GBP 3 million is available to social housing tenants and grants of GBP 300 can be applied for during the duration of the scheme, which runs from 1 August 2011 to March 2012.

David Holmes, founder of Solar Guide, says: “Thanks to the Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme, there–s never been a better time to invest in a green solar hot water system.
“Aside from benefitting from a one-off payment to assist the purchase of a system, those taking up the premium payment will then be eligible for the RHI tariff when it comes into force in October 2012.”
Aimed at the 4 million or so UK homes that aren–t heated by mains gas, to qualify for the RHPP, you will need to meet certain criteria. For example, your property will need to be well insulated based on its energy performance certificate and you will need to agree to give feedback on how the equipment you–ve had installed performs.
The GBP 300 grants are available in the form of vouchers on a first-come, first-served basis. Vouchers can be obtained via the Energy Saving Trust, who is administering the scheme on behalf of the Government.
