UTS wins major Contract for Biogas Plant in Baden-Wuerttemberg

The customer is Biogaspark Neckar-Odenwald GmbH (BNO) from Buchen in Baden-Wuerttemberg. The company was established due to an initiative of the district Neckar-Odenwald by the Abfallwirtschaftsgesellschaft des Neckar-Odenwald-Kreises GmbH (AWN), the district waste management company, to emphasize the need of using regional, sustainable and economical energy due to increasing energy prices and climate change.

The Biogaspark Neckar-Odenwald GmbH had special demands for the site of the biogas plant Bieringen: space was restricted and a high thermal efficiency was required. UTS´ Triton® series is ideal for these conditions as the ring-in-ring system (outer ring: primary fermenter, inner ring: secondary fermenter) stands for compactness and efficiency with minimal internal power consumption. In addition, the Triton® system for Bieringen is equipped with hydraulic mixing technology and patented service boxes in all tanks – the well-proven UTS combination of high performance and ease of maintenance.

Three years ago, the Biogaspark Neckar-Odenwald GmbH had built their first biogas plant also together with the UTS group of companies: the plant Rosenberg started initially with 700 kW in 2007. Currently, this plant is even able to provide 1 MW of electric power due to the conversion of electric to hydraulic mixing technology in the fermenter and by adding another CHP.

The new project Bieringen is planned for generating 800 kW of electrical energy to the grid. The official groundbreaking ceremony will take place on April 26 at the site of the new plant. The biogas plant Bieringen will be fed with corn and grass silages as well as whole crop silage. Local farmers will benefit from the digestate as fertilizer while waste heat will be used industrially.

Ludwig Dinkloh, Vice President of UTS Biogastechnik GmbH, commented on the success: „The biogas industry in Germany is clearly on the upswing again. But we all are pretty aware of the fact that this will not be permanent. The more we are pleased that both old and new customers trust in our technology and solutions when deciding to build either a new plant or enlarge their existing ones. They know that we build reliable plants for a continuing successful operation. Because of its innovative concept, the biogas plant Bieringen will turn out to be an internationally important reference plant for UTS.”
