TORRANCE, CA — (Marketwire) — 08/14/12 — Verengo Solar, one of the nation–s leading companies, today announced they have successfully installed the first batch of GRID Alternatives residential projects in Southern California. The three Verengo residential installations were done in a neighborhood of Piru in Eastern Ventura county as part of Verengo–s partnership with GRID Alternatives, a California-based non-profit, and its campaign to install solar electric systems for low-income families through GRID–s Sub-Contractor Partnership Program (SPP). Under the terms of the partnership, Verengo also hired eligible solar job trainees for the projects.
“Verengo is very excited to be expanding our relationship with GRID Alternatives into the Southern California region,” said Verengo Special Projects Manager Adam Davis. “These three installations are not only a lot of fun for the families and installers but instill a greater sense of community when a neighborhood goes solar.”
“Partnering with sub-contractors like Verengo means we–re able to help even more low-income families save on their electricity bills, and spread solar further,” said Susan Chang, the regional director of GRID Alternatives for Greater Los Angeles. “We–re thrilled to also connect eager job trainees with valuable job opportunities in the industry.”
A week later Verengo Northern California General Manager Tom Sweeney joined more than 200 job trainees, government officials, homeowners and other corporate sponsors to take part in GRID Alternative–s Bay Area Solarthon in San Jose.
“By the end of the day the volunteers installed solar systems in 13 homes in the Hillview Park neighborhood of East San Jose putting up more than 250 panels,” Sweeney said. “Like all the events we sponsor with GRID Alternatives, the mood was a wonderful combination of hard work and camaraderie. Two of our company values are Responsibility and Enthusiasm — we do good and we do well and have fun doing it — our partnership with GRID Alternatives exemplifies these values.”
